Upcoming Activities/Dates for October 2016

5K/CARNIVAL: Thank you so much for your overwhelming support of our LLA 5K & Carnival! We really have an amazing LLA community with helping hands, generous donations, involved teachers, and frankly the most wonderful kids around! We have some speedy runners, and we have kids that sure know how to aim a pie at their teachers! If you have any fun pictures, feel free to share on our Facebook page! Check out the photo of Mr. Ransom and his face covered in pie! Also, our school food donations were beyond successful! Our entire student body has earned a doughnut party! Way to go!!!

FREE CLASSIC SKATE NIGHT: Tuesday, October 11th from 5-9 pm. Bring your skates and scooters and join us at the Layton Classic Fun Center. Admission is free, and kids may bring skates, blades and scooters. There will be rentals available, if needed, for a small fee. They are also offering a $3 dinner deal (nachos or pizza & drink OR hot dog, chips & drink.)

RIBBON WEEK: October 10-14th is our Ribbon Week. Our school halls will be decked with student pledges to be safe, safe, safe! Look for more info for a fun week: (Monday - Red Ribbon, Tuesday - Green Ribbon, Wednesday - White Ribbon, Thursday - Blue Ribbon.) Kids can wear fun clothes, participate in fun contests, and join us for our school skate night! More info to come!

DOLLAR DRESS DOWN DAY: WEDNESDAY, October 19th. We run into Fall Break and Parent Teacher Conferences this month, so just note that our Dollar Dress Down Day falls in the middle of the week and in the middle of the month.

BOX TOPS COMPETITION: Due October 19th. Another fun contest for our school! If you have been collecting box tops, now is the time to send them in! The Intermediate and Primary Classes that gather the most before Oct 19th will earn a class party! (Box tops will be collected all year and will always be counted with your classroom for future contests.)

BOOK FAIR: Our school book fair will be October 24-28 before and after school and during parent teacher conferences. Come and get some fun new books and help support our school. Remember that 55% of all purchases comes right back to the school for more books in classrooms and the library! Hope to see you there.

After School Clubs - Winter Session, January 12 - February 20

Registration for the winter session of after-school clubs will begin on January 5th and run through January 7th. Registration will be very different from the fall session. We have decided to try this out in hopes that more students will have the opportunity to join these clubs and not be excluded if parents aren't able to make it to the school in the morning.

We are all accustomed to the lottery system since we are in a Charter School, right?
  1. There will be THREE days for registration: Monday, Jan 5th promptly at 8:00 am to Wednesday, January 7th at 12 pm.
  2. E-mail your choices in the order of preference to llaafterschoolclubs@gmail.com
  3. If your student is selected for the after school club, you will be notified on Wednesday afternoon.
  4. You will then have until Friday, January 9th at 4:00 pm to drop off your payment in the PTO box in the office.
  5. If payment is not received, the club slot will go to the next student on the list.

The After School Club Committee will be picking students by the following criteria:

  • If there are enough spots, all students will get in.
  • If parents are teaching a club, their children will receive priority.
  • A lottery will determine participants.
  • Families will be kept together if possible.
**Several of the clubs are needing assistants. The Spanish Club leader would like to have 5 students who speak Spanish to help. The Art Club needs 4 committed parents each week. The Science Club NEEDS an assistant. Volunteer assistant needs are also specified in the calendar below. Those that volunteer to help will receive priority for registration.
